SECTION.1
STATEMENT OF GENERAL POLICY
1.1
Fault Free Engineering Ltd is committed to achieving and maintaining high standards of health and safety in all aspects of its electrical engineering activities.
1.2
Fault Free Engineering Ltd acknowledges and accepts its statutory responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated regulations for securing the health, safety and welfare of:
- All employees
- Directors
- Subcontractors working on behalf of the company
- Clients and their employees where work is undertaken on site
- Members of the public who may be affected by our operations
Fault Free Engineering Ltd will provide and maintain safe and healthy working conditions and will ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable that:

Adequate financial, physical and managerial resources are provided to effectively manage health and safety.
SECTION 2 –
HEALTH AND SAFETY ORGANISATION
Fault Free Engineering Ltd is an electrical engineering company comprising two Directors and employees engaged in electrical repairs and installations.
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the Directors. Day-to-day responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of this policy is assigned to a nominated Director.

HEALTH AND SAFETY ARRANGEMENTS
Fault Free Engineering Ltd carries out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all work activities.
These include:
- Planned Risk Assessments for routine installation and repair activities.
- Site-Specific Risk Assessments completed prior to commencement of work at client premises.
Dynamic risk assessments where site conditions change

RISK ASSESMENT
Identify risks evaluate and minimising impacts
Fault Free Engineering Ltd carries out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all work activities.
These include:
- Planned Risk Assessments for routine installation and repair activities.
- Site-Specific Risk Assessments completed prior to commencement of work at client premises.
- Dynamic risk assessments where site conditions change.
Risk assessments are prepared and reviewed by the Director responsible for Health & Safety.
Assessments are:
- Reviewed annually
- Reviewed when work activities change
- Updated following accidents, near misses or significant operational changes
Control measures identified in risk assessments must be implemented before work proceeds.
Given the company’s specialism in machine installation and electrical repairs, strict controls apply to:
- Isolation procedures (Lock Off / Tag Out)
- Verification of dead
- Prevention of inadvertent energisation
- Safe testing procedures
- Work near live systems (only where absolutely necessary and justified)
No employee is permitted to work on live electrical systems unless:
- It is unreasonable for the system to be made dead
- A risk assessment has been completed
- Additional control measures are in place
- Authorisation is given by the Director
Installation of machinery will include:
- Mechanical stability checks
- Secure fixing and guarding
- Safe connection and commissioning
- Client handover and documentation where required
All tools, plant and test equipment must be:
- Suitable for the task
- Inspected before use
- Maintained in safe condition
- Removed from service if defective
Portable electrical tools are subject to inspection and testing where required.
Employees must report damaged or faulty equipment immediately
Where work at height cannot be avoided:
- The most suitable access method will be selected
- Ladders will only be used for short duration, low-risk tasks
- Equipment will be inspected before use
- Three points of contact will be maintained
More complex access equipment will only be used by trained personnel.
Manual handling risks associated with machinery installation, cable drums and equipment are assessed prior to lifting.
Where reasonably practicable:
- Mechanical lifting aids will be used
- Team lifts will be organised
- Loads will be reduced where possible
Employees are instructed in safe lifting techniques.
Where substances such as cleaning agents, sealants or lubricants are used:
- COSHH assessments will be undertaken where required
- Safety Data Sheets will be obtained and reviewed
- Appropriate control measures and PPE will be implemented
All employees receive:
- Health and Safety induction
- Task-specific instruction
- Toolbox talks where required
- Supervision appropriate to experience level
Training records are maintained by the Director responsible for Health & Safety.
Only competent persons are permitted to undertake electrical testing and certification.
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported to a Director immediately.
An accident record will be maintained.
Where required under RIDDOR 2013, reports will be submitted to the enforcing authority.
Incidents will be investigated and corrective action implemented.
Appropriate first aid kits are maintained in company vehicles and at any fixed premises.
An appointed person is responsible for maintaining first aid supplies.
Emergency contact procedures are communicated to all employees.
Where work is carried out on client premises, the company will ensure adequate welfare facilities are available.
Where such facilities are not available, alternative arrangements will be made
Health and safety performance is monitored through:
- Periodic site inspections
- Review of risk assessments
- Investigation of incidents
- Director oversight
The effectiveness of this section will be reviewed annually or following significant change.

Identified Hazards
- Failure to report accidents or incidents
- Failure to investigate incidents and identify causes
- Failure to learn from incidents, resulting in recurrence
Arrangements
All employees and subcontractors must report all accidents, injuries, incidents and near misses to a Director of Fault Free Engineering Ltd as soon as possible.
Incidents must be recorded in the company accident record system.
The Directors will assess whether the incident is reportable under RIDDOR 2013.
Where an incident is reportable, the Director responsible for Health and Safety will submit the report to the relevant enforcing authority within the required time period.
In the event of a serious injury or fatality, the relevant authority will be notified immediately.
All reportable incidents will be investigated by the Directors to determine:
- the cause of the incident
- whether existing control measures were adequate
- what corrective actions are required to prevent recurrence
Where necessary, risk assessments and safe systems of work will be reviewed and updated.
All accidents that result in personal injury must be reported, regardless of severity. Near misses (events that could have caused injury or damage) must also be reported.
Where work is carried out on a client’s premises, incidents must also be reported in accordance with the client’s accident reporting procedures.
Records of accidents and incidents will be maintained by the company in accordance with data protection requirements.

Arrangements
Fault Free Engineering Ltd will ensure suitable first aid arrangements are in place for its operations.
First aid kits will be maintained in company vehicles and at any fixed premises used by the company.
Employees must familiarise themselves with the first aid arrangements at any workplace where they are operating, including the location of first aid facilities and appointed persons.
All injuries must be reported in accordance with the company accident reporting procedures.
Where necessary, emergency services will be contacted immediately by dialling 999.
First aid kits will be regularly checked and replenished by the Director responsible for Health and Safety.
First aid kits will contain appropriate basic supplies such as sterile dressings, plasters, bandages and disposable gloves.
Employees administering first aid must only do so within the limits of their training.
